usan G. Waxter grew up in Baltimore, part of a family in which “there
was always music in the house!” Ms. Waxter recalls listening to
recordings of Broadway musicals after dinner, in particular My Fair
Lady and South Pacific, and she studied classical piano for 10 years until she
went to college. Throughout her school years, Ms. Waxter played hand bells
and sang in the glee club. Her family’s musical tradition stemmed mostly from
her mother’s family, including owning and playing an upright Steinway piano
inherited from her grandmother.
