Chelsea Knox flute Chelsea Knox , assistant principal flutist of the BSO , has held positions as principal flutist of the New Haven Symphony , the Princeton Symphony and the Chamber Orchestra of New York . She has appeared with numerous orchestras including the Vancouver and San Diego symphonies , and the IRIS and Juilliard orchestras . As a soloist , Ms . Knox has performed with the Hartford and Manchester symphonies , Juilliard Lab Orchestra and Connecticut Youth Symphony . A native of Litchfield , CT , Ms . Knox received her early training at the Hartt School of Music and earned her bachelor ’ s and master ’ s degrees from the Juilliard School .
Marcia Kämper flute Marcia Kämper became a permanent member of the BSO after performing during the 2005 – 2006 season . She has performed several concertos with the BSO and is the co-artistic director of Chamber Music by Candlelight . Ms . Kämper began her orchestral career in 2002 as second flute and piccolo with the Omaha Symphony , where she also was the soloist in Bernstein ’ s Halil . Ms . Kämper , who earned two degrees from Peabody Conservatory , is the co-founder and co-artistic director of the non-profit arts group ANALOG . She recently performed as flutist and sound projectionist in the U . S . premiere of Karlheinz Stockhausen ’ s Klang at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City .
Emily Skala flute Emily Skala , principal flutist of the BSO since 1988 , has held three principal positions , been guest principal in orchestras on three continents and performed at music festivals from Aspen to Brazil . She has taught masterclasses at the National Orchestral Institute , Eastman School of Music , Oberlin Conservatory and George Mason University ; in Suanbo , South Korea ; and for the National Flute Association ’ s annual conventions . She has been a faculty member of the Peabody Institute since 1989 . During her time with the BSO , Ms . Skala released a solo CD of Brahms and Schubert with summit Records to much acclaim and performed on numerous BSO recordings under the direction of David Zinman and Marin Alsop on the Decca , Telarc , Sony and Naxos labels .
Melissa Hooper oboe Melissa Hooper was named assistant principal oboe of the BSO in 2014 . She previously performed as a guest musician with the Metropolitan Opera , the National Symphony Orchestra and the symphony orchestras of Hawaii and San Antonio . Ms . Hooper received a Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School , where she was a student of Elaine Douvas . She then attended the University of Texas at Austin , serving as a teaching assistant for Rebecca Henderson . Ms . Hooper is a visiting faculty member at the Bard College Conservatory of Music .
Michael Lisicky oboe Oboist Michael Lisicky is in his 14 th season with the BSO . A New Jersey native , he is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music . His teachers include Alfred Genoese , Peter Bowman , John deLancie and Marion Norcross . He is a former member of the Richmond and Savannah symphonies . Mr . Lisicky has served as the official BSO historian and is the author of several books including Baltimore Symphony Orchestra : A Century of Sound .
Jane Marvine oboe Jane Marvine was appointed to the position of solo English horn in 2000 after having joined the BSO in 1978 as second oboe . She has performed as acting assistant principal oboe with the BSO and plays principal oboe with the
Baltimore Choral Arts Society Orchestra . She earned a Bachelor of Music and a master ’ s degree in composition from Northwestern University , performing on several occasions with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra , including a tour to Carnegie Hall . She has also performed with the Chicago Festival Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago . She is currently a member of the oboe faculty at the Peabody Institute .
