Welcome
Peter Kjome President and CEO
It brings me great pleasure to welcome Peter Kjome as President and CEO of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra , a best-of-both-worlds executive who fits our needs in this dynamic , challenging arts environment .
Every major orchestra in America today needs to manage strong economic headwinds — a challenge compounded by the imperative of remaining faithful to an artistic vision . In Peter , we have someone who has a track record of doing both .
He is the right individual to lead us into our second century .
Peter received his bachelor ’ s from the Cleveland Institute of Music and served as professional oboist with Grand Rapids Symphony for eight years , building on a career that included performing as a substitute musician with the Cleveland Orchestra and Pittsburgh Symphony . He later earned a master ’ s in business administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University , and applied those management and financial skills at 3M Company , a leading global company based in St . Paul , Minnesota .
Peter Kjome ( pronounced “ Cho-mee ”) currently serves as the President and CEO of the Grand Rapids Symphony and will assume his duties with the BSO on February 1 , 2017 , at which time I will continue my role as Board Chair of this great orchestra .
I am grateful to the work of the search committee members , and especially grateful to search committee chair Hilary Miller , for their steadfast work selecting Peter Kjome from an international pool of highly accomplished candidates . He is the right individual to lead us into our second century .
