Welcome to the 101 st year of this great orchestra ! As our centennial celebration comes to a close , I wish to congratulate Marin Alsop on her tenth year as Music Director . Her presence has been transformational — her talent for programming , vision for OrchKids and embrace of our audience have become hallmarks of the BSO . Congratulations also to the extraordinarily
I wish to congratulate Marin Alsop on her tenth year as Music Director . talented musicians of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra , whose artistry is paralleled by the dedicated behind-the-scenes staff . Thank you for an incredible year of music — a year that included legendary symphonic works and world premieres by exceptional living composers .
As the BSO performs the first notes in our next century , I am proud to welcome eight new Baltimore Symphony Orchestra musicians to our esteemed stage : Matthew Barker , Fourth / Utility Trumpet ; Holly Jenkins , Section Second Violin ; Se-Doo Park , Section Cello ; Sunjoo Park , Section Second Violin ; Jacob Shack , Fourth Chair Viola ; Lukasz Szyrner , Section Cello ; Audrey Wright , Fourth Chair Second Violin ; and Yao Zhai , Principal Clarinet . Do give them a warm welcome .
Together under one baton , we will conclude our celebration with the soaring sounds of Ludwig van Beethoven and Igor Stravinsky , two colossal composers whose transformative compositions shaped the future of classical music .
Our centennial year was a momentous milestone for the BSO . I invite you to join us as we continue our treasured legacy into a second century of outstanding symphonic music .
