BSOMUSIC .ORG Brian Greene last appeared with the BSO in Icarus at the Edge of Time, in January 2011, Marin Alsop, conductor. Jonathan Carney Jonathan Carney is in his 14th season with the BSO, after 12 seasons in the same position with London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Born in New Jersey, Mr. Carney hails from a musical family with all six members graduates of The Juilliard School. Following his studies with Ivan Galamian and Christine Dethier, he was awarded a Leverhulme Fellowship to continue his studies in London at the Royal College of Music. Recent solo performances have included concertos by Bruch, Glazunov, Korngold, Khatchaturian, Sibelius, Nielsen, the Brahms Double Concerto and Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, which was featured as a live BBC broadcast from London’s Barbican Hall. He has made a number of recordings, including concertos by Mozart, Vivaldi and Nielsen, sonatas by Brahms, Beethoven and Franck, and a disc of virtuoso works of by Sarasate and Kreisler with his mother Gloria Carney as pianist. Mr. Carney is passionate about music education and currently serves as Artistic Director for the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras. He is also an artist-in-residence at the Baltimore School for the Arts, one of the country’s premier high schools where he serves on its Board of Directors. Jonathan Carney last appeared as a violin soloist with the BSO in September, playing Glazunov’s Violin Concerto in A minor, op. 82, Juanjo Mena, conductor. Qing Li last appeared as a violin soloist with the BSO in July 2014, playing the Corelli Concerto grosso in G minor, op. 6, no. 8 with Jonathan Carney leading. CH R ISTIAN CO LB ERG HONY P E A B O DY SY M P O R C H E S T R A i, Qing Li is the BSO’s Principal Second Violin, appointed by Yuri Temirkanov. An accomplished orchestral player, she is repeatedly engaged as a recitalist and a guest concertmaster in halls throughout America, Europe, Asia and South America. Radio and television broadcasts of her work as soloist and chamber musician have been aired on WYPR, in Germany and in China. Qing Li was born in Beijing China. At age 12, she won acceptance to the Central Conservatory of Music. She was discovered at a master class by Berl Senofsky, who enthusiastically brought her to Peabody Conservatory with a full scholarship. Since then, she has won fellowships in some of the country’s major music festival programs including Tanglewood, Meadowmount and Aspen. Ivan Stef
