Mr . Adams has received honorary doctorates from Yale , Harvard , Cambridge University and the Juilliard School . His piece , On the Transmigration of Souls , commissioned by the New York Philharmonic to commemorate the first anniversary of 9 / 11 , garnered the 2003 Pulitzer Prize in Music . As a conductor , Mr . Adams has appeared with the world ’ s major orchestras in programs combining his own works with a wide variety of repertoire ranging from Beethoven and Mozart to Ives , Carter , Zappa , Glass and Ellington .

S ., including the New York and Los Angeles philharmonics , and the symphony orchestras of Boston , Chicago , San Francisco , and Philadelphia .
Last season , he became an Artistic Partner of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and performed Bach concertos with the Academy of St . Martin-in-the-Fields . Following the release of his recording of Goldberg Variations — which reached number one on Billboard ’ s classical chart — he performed the piece throughout Europe , a tour that included his debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam .
Mr . Denk has written about music for the New Yorker , the New Republic , The Guardian , and the New York Times Book Review . One of his New Yorker contributions , “ Every Good Boy Does Fine ,” forms the basis of a memoir that will be published by Random House .
