The above situation on New Canaan Ave was an expected benefit of our monitoring. However there are some unexpected benefits to our presence at these sites as well. When we first started eight years ago, some of the more remote sites were littered and showed signs of illegal activities such as oil discharge, theft, vandalism and illegal dumping along the riverside. I am now happy to say that every year since then, the sites have shown considerably less litter and signs of these activities.

Another unexpected benefit is that we get to engage with the public. Often we come across folks who wish to speak about what we are doing. There are also many people who we do not speak with but who still see us out there.

Both Emmanuel and I are very proud of these parts we have played in the larger narrative of environmental stewardship and hope to inspire others to play a part as well.
