URING the 2018 boating

season Division 7 ran a

search and rescue exercise to gain experience and information to be an effecitve resource to the Coast Guard. On October 28 the Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary air operations and our surface facility out of Mamaroneck worked together as this search exercise came to life.

That morning a boater reported seeing a submerged dinghy. There were 2-3-foot seas on Long Island Sound, as the previous day a nor'easter had exited our area.

At 1130 hours AUXAIR arrived on the scene, initially tasked to look for an overturned Sunfish. On board were pilot and Commander Tomar Regev, pilot/owner Eric Sachs, and air observer Lou Volpato. Surface patrol crew aboard the Auxiliary vessel Nathan Bruckenthal were Vincent Bocchimuzzo, Jerry Simotas, Timothy Hamill, Emmanuel Salami, and myself. The helm was expertly manned by Coxswain Michael O’Connor.
