Note that some of the image below is from reflections in the aircraft window, which is something the observers must deal with as well.

It was a Sunday morning in June when the crew met at the White Plains, NY airport to brief the mission. It was a clear day with a light breeze. We decided to use a creeping line search pattern with half-mile spacing and three-mile legs. The search would be flown at 1,000 feet at a speed of 100–110kts. There were four trained observers on board.

After 10-15 minutes flying this pattern, one of the crew spotted the buoy. It's in
