NEW YORK

BOAT SHOW

HE 2017 New York Boat Show, promoted by Progressive Insurance and

hosted by The Jacob Jav its Convention Center in Manhattan, visited us

again between January 24 and 29, 2017. Featured were the newest boats, jet skis, paddle craft and latest technology in navigation, communications and survival gear. The event was well attended seeing over several thousand attendees within the course of the six days the show was in town.

A Public Affairs & Marine Safety Booth was manned by 37 Auxiliarists, some of whom worked multiple shifts throughout the week while others were responsible for its setup and take-down. These members engaged the public on topics ranging from boating safety, public education, America's Waterways Watch, pollution and aquatic nuisance awareness, to recruitment for the US Coast Guard, its Academy, and the Auxiliary.

Interfacing with the public and spreading the word about boating safety and Marine Safety put into perspective how Recreational Boating Safety is Job# 1. Sharing information and making attendees aware of the potential hazards they may encounter while underway while also sharing with them suspicious behaviors to be on the look out for in an effort to keep our waterways, facilities and structures on and around them safe prove to make this mission invaluable! Bravo Zulu to all those who attended and stood a taut watch at this event. Your service at this event educated the public, increased their awareness and may have prevented an incident or accident and saved a life or lives!
