N758DK had experienced a complete engine failure while performing a Marine Observation Mission over the Hudson River. Pilot Jack Rosenberg of Flotilla 10-01 and Observer Eric Pearson of Flotilla 01-06 left the river to attempt a landing at Teeterboro Airport when the plane’s engine began to run roughly. Within a minute the engine completely stalled and the aviation team decided to look for open space to land the plane.

Working together they completed the emergency check list and found an athletic field only to realize there was a children’s soccer game going on at the time. To avoid the civilians on the field they made a hard landing in a small area off to the east and came to a halt in a tree line.

On Sunday, August 28, 2016 the Unites States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotillas Air Station Caldwell and Air Station Lincoln Park, honored the civilians and emergency personal of Cresskill and Bergen County that responded almost a year before to an air incident. The “First Year Anniversary Picnic and Celebration” of what the aviators could only call a “combination of many miracles” was held on the Reagan Athletic Field, the site of the incident almost a year before.

The Cresskill Police Department, Cresskill Fire Department, and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department were instrumental in the survival of the two Coast Guard Auxiliary aircrew members that emergency landed at Reagan Athletic Field in Cresskill in 2015. The pilots and the Auxiliary wanted to thank them for their assistance.
