program, “AIM is the Academy’s

premier recruiting program, normally yielding nearly one third of the prospective Swab class. For high school students it is an opportunity shared by approximately 550 qualified young men and women entering their senior year to spend six days immersed in cadet life. These students, from all over the nation, participate in a modified version of Swab Summer under the leadership of Second-Class Cadets.”

In other words, prospective cadets get a taste of life as a Swab for an intensive, high-paced 6 days of studying, military discipline, competition, engineering, leadership and camaraderie they will never forget, whether or not they chose to pursue a carrier in the U.S. Coast Guard.

The AIM program makes up to 40 percent of the Corps of Cadets. These young men and women are pushed to their limits and learn to work as a team, making in the process great friends they’ll keep for the rest of their lives.

The role of the Admission Partners is a key part of the machine that makes the AIM program so successful. It is composed of the USCGA Admissions Associate Director of Diversity & Outreach Administrative staff, AIM program and the Partners Supervisory Staff. Include to this the Athletic Trainers (the Medics, usually 4!) and you have a pretty well-oiled organization. AIMsters are directly supervised and trained by 2/c Second Class Cadets (“Cadre”) as part of their first leadership experience.

The Supervisory body of about16 Partners is composed of Active Duty, Reserve, Retired, Auxiliarists and Parents. The staff rotates assignment as Duty Officer in the Operation Center (OPCEN), assistant duty officer, safety officer and program assistance & support along with the cadre and the administrative staff.
