Fleet Week 2016

T

HE PARADE OF SHIPS signaled the start of the week-long celebration of

Fleet Week on 25 May. The Intrepid Memorial Day Commemoration honored the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice serving the U.S. Armed Forces.

The U.S. Coast Guard presented tours open to the general public aboard the USCGC Katherine Walker (WLM512) on the pier adjacent to the Intrepid. The USCGC Forward (WMEC 911) was stationed in Brooklyn.

The U.S. Coast Guard Search and Rescue Team performed a demonstration by dropping a mannequin into the Hudson River while a rescue swimmer jumped from a Coast Guard helicopter to secure it. Both swimmer and mannequin were then lifted back into the helicopter.

While shoreside activities were taking place with the Coast Guard Auxiliary Public Affairs booth, and Auxiliarists conducted tours on the Katherine Walker and Forward, surface operations assisted the Coast Guard during the Parade of Ships entrance to New York Harbor.
