Change and Challenge

First off I want to welcome Linda Lakin as the new DSO-PB. She brings a lot of talent and experience to the job and will be a great asset to our D1SR Team. As I write this I haven’t seen this edition of Over the Bow but I am confident it will be great. I also want to thank James Chin for the great job he did on OTB. I have a distant memory how busy the life of a young lawyer can be so it is no surprise his plate is full, for now.

On April 1st, no fooling, we start the historic District 1 D-Train. This event is the first time we have joined with District 1 NR for a D-Train and the theme is “Strength in Unity.” I have been working tirelessly trying to think of something that DCOS Formato has missed but I have found he has it all covered. Gus is doing a tremendous job and I am confident that this will be the best D-Train ever!

I often say if you like a challenge you will love the Auxiliary. Well as usual we have a lot for you to love. Mandated Training is moving along but at a slow pace. We are at 29-percent compliance and we have to do better. PPE was a big challenge last year and hasn’t gone away. The Director’s Office is distributing PPE to the Divisions but we still have an issue with the PLBs. The supply was limited to start and now the Coast Guard’s contract with the

manufacturer has been canceled. Active Duty is working on an extension of the Waiver so that operations can get underway without a delay.

Bottom line is that we are going to make this work because that is what we do. Whatever the challenge is we will overcome it whether we have to go over it, around it or through it. We are District 1 SR, we will be there first.
