and watchstanding at the Public Affairs Booth between January 5 and January 10, 2016, at the New York Boat Show held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan.

Each member spent 6-10 hours a day assisting in recruiting efforts for the U.S. Coast Guard, Coast Guard Academy and the Auxiliary as well as distributing information on Boating Safety and the Boating Safety Courses to be offered throughout 2016 District-wide.

The New York Boat Show catered to 35,000 attendees who were comprised of current and first-time boaters. The efforts of D1SR Auxiliary members to promote boating safety and Team Coast Guard resulted in developing 25 potential new members for the Auxiliary, and 12 High School students who expressed an interest in attending the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and/or its AIM Week.

The New York Boat Show has become a great platform for our members to engage the public in discussions including preventative Search and Rescue measures, boater education, America’s Waterway Watch programs, hoax search and rescue calls and environmental safety/pollution outreach and prevention.

We are confident that the cumulative knowledge brought to bear by our members in educating the public and distributing over 3000 pieces of information will result in a safer boating season in 2016.
