In August 2017, Auxiliary boat crew, Mike Gilmartin, Erin Montello and Coxswain Vin Pica, of East Moriches flotilla, took CDR Maureen Anderson, CDR William Grossman DIRAUX D1SR, BOSN4 Manny Zambrana (head of ANT Moriches), and BM1 Bangay for a tour around Moriches Bay on OPFAC 251384 in order to show them the shoaling in the federal channel. Shortly, thereafter, two sections of the federal channel were closed in Moriches Bay.
Buoys from 29 to 26 in Moriches Bay were removed and USCG ANT Team added a workaround channel by installing new buoys 01 to 14. Also removed by the ANT Team were buoys 21 to 17 further west of Moriches Bay and added were warning buoys that clearly said "Severe Shoaling Ahead".
