B 72 People The clinical team at Fort Worth experienced 100 percent retention for pre- and post-procedural care nursing areas in fiscal year 2017. More than 90 percent of the team have a Bachelor’s degree or higher related to their clinical areas. Two advanced practice nurses worked closely with the medical staff in the daily care of cardiovascular patients. More than 50 percent of the clinical team have at least one national certification. Sharing best practices across the system and within the Fort Worth medical community is an important part of the culture. Weekly, a multidisciplinary team of cardiac surgeons, interventional cardiologists, imaging specialists, and others meet to discuss valve disorder cases and plan, patient-by-patient, the best course of treatment. This gathering is sponsored by the Valve Disorders Center. Every week, the Fort Worth group of sonographers leads an Echocardiography Conference that provides specific education and case updates. In addition, many of the nurses involved in pre- and post-care for cardiovascular patients provide regular educational inservices to the clinical team at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth. In fiscal year 2017, more than 24 learning opportunities were provided in collaboration with cardiologists on the medical staff and dually coordinated with the hospital- wide education department. Regarding the growth for Baylor Heart and Vascular Services at Fort Worth, Medical Director for Non- Invasive Cardiology, Arun Padala, MD, FACC, says it has been a year for enhanced focus on sharing best practices within multidisciplinary groups. “We’ve enhanced the Non-Invasive Cardiology programs and services; launched a weekly Echo Conference, and provided extensive outreach to the community offering more education about heart health and disease management than ever before in our history. We’ve received positive feedback for this multidisciplinary approach and look forward to expanding the program.” Cardiac Rehabilitation – fort worth At the end of fiscal year 2017, Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital worked closely with Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth to complete an agreement to add the established and well-respected Carter Rehabilitation Center for cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation into the continuum of cardiovascular care oversight by the specialty hospital medical staff and operational leadership. “The close collaboration that developed over the past several years with Baylor Scott & White – Fort Worth and the cardiology medical staff led us to a mutual decision to enhance cardiac rehabilitation services in Fort Worth,” says Nancy Vish, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, President of Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital. “We look forward to bringing the Return to Work® program to Tarrant County area patients as well as providing patients an opportunity to participate in an internationally recognized program. We welcome the medical oversight and expertise of Fort Worth cardiologist, Sam Nassar, DO, as the medical director. His passion for helping patients reach their fullest possible recovery potential through cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation will help the program in Fort Worth grow in reputation and strength.”
