A 60 ADVANCED HEART FAILURE The American Heart Association estimates about 6.5 million adults in the United States are living with heart failure. America’s silent epidemic, as referred to by the Heart Failure Society of America, earned its name because many people are unaware of their symptoms. Common signs of heart failure, such as fatigue and shortness of breath, are often mistaken for signs of aging. Early diagnosis and treatment can improve the quality and length of life for those living with this condition. Baylor Heart and Vascular Services at Dallas’ advanced heart failure team is dedicated to the treatment of advanced heart failure, including transplant cardiologists and surgeons on the medical staff, certified heart failure nurses, transplant coordinators, dietitians, social workers, and more. Additionally, the program offers a full spectrum of therapeutic options for heart failure patients including post-treatment care such as cardiac rehabilitation; patient education focused on medication, lifestyle adjustments and nutrition; and patient and family support programs. 1st Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas was the nation’s first hospital to receive the Gold Seal of Approval ™ from The Joint Commission for the Ventricular Assist Device Program.
