Valve Surgery

MEASURING INNOVATION IN HEART AND VASCULAR CARE
In coordination with the Center for Valve Disorders , cardiac surgeons on the medical staff at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas treat valvular disease with open and minimally invasive procedures . Cardiologists , cardiac surgeons , and imaging specialists collaborate to evaluate the patient ’ s condition , diagnose , and determine treatment recommendations . As a leader in the field of structural heart disease and research , treatment options range from medical management to minimally invasive and open procedures as well as clinical trials .
Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas , along with three other Baylor Scott & White hospitals , has been established as a Baylor Scott & White Health Center of Excellence for mitral valve procedures . Moving high-risk procedures to facilities that meet the rigorous criteria established based on national benchmarks for each procedure allows for application of best practices from the American Heart Association , American College of Cardiology , and American Society of Echocardiography guidelines . This supports that essential resources are available , and as important , institutional volumes are at a level to provide the expertise resulting in fewer complications and improved outcomes .
“ As our cardiovascular surgery program continues to exceed expectations in volumes and quality , Baylor University Medical Center has been named a Center of Excellence for mitral valve procedures . Our department not only met criteria based on national benchmarks , we also provide the necessary expertise and resources in these high-risk procedures resulting in fewer complications and improved outcomes .”
