Shared Governance
Shared Governance is the model that empowers employees to have a voice and decision-making opportunities at Baylor
Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital. It is supported by the framework of partnership, equity, accountability, and
ownership. Shared Governance creates an environment for best care, safe-timely-effective-equitable-efficient-patient
centered care, improved patient safety, utilizing evidence-based practice, and shared decision-making. This framework
results in safe, quality, and compassionate health care. Shared Governance provides the structure and process to promote
autonomy of professional practice within the scope of the Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital employee’s
discipline. Shared Governance promotes participative management and shared-decision making between front-line staff
members and leadership with a formalized voice and process that impacts both practice and work environment. The
philosophy in action supports collaborative, interdisciplinary practice in which there is great teamwork and a reduction in
the duplication of work.
