Ongoing Patient Education and Support Programs

The hospital emphasizes community outreach by sponsoring ongoing classes focused on preventive health education .
LEAP FOR LIFE ®
“ Leap ” stands for Lifestyle Education Awareness Program . For the past ten years , this successful program was developed to focus on the needs of cardiovascular patients and family members . Leap for Life sessions teach what steps can be taken to manage cardiovascular disease and to improve health and well-being . It is a wellness and disease prevention program available to all heart patients and their family members . Anyone from the community may attend and registration is encouraged . Educators with special expertise in cardiovascular patient care help empower individuals with physical , dietary and stress management

WIRED FOR LIFE
Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital teams up with past implantable cardioverter defibrillator ( ICD ) recipients to provide future or past ICD recipients with support , comfort and answers to questions . Volunteers are also available to meet with future recipients and family members before and after the ICD procedure . Classes are scheduled four to six times per year and a schedule is available by calling 1.800.4BAYLOR ; ask for Wired for Life class information .

“ LIVING WITH …” COMMUNITY EDUCATION SERIES
In fiscal year 2017 , several Living with A-Fib and Living with Heart Failure evening community events were held in Dallas and Fort Worth . New to the list of evening offerings this past year were “ Dining with Diabetes ” and “ Know Your Numbers .” Expert presenters provided attendees with helpful information on managing chronic conditions including heart arrhythmias or heart failure or identifying signs and symptoms for a variety of conditions .

Community Involvement / Volunteerism

The team at Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital is committed to providing all employees with opportunities to be actively involved in the community . Whether this be event-specific involvement or involvement via a leadership position in a community organization including the Dallas Regional Chamber ’ s Young Professionals or North Texas American Heart Association , employees are encouraged to be active participants . The Community Advisory Council also provides suggestions to become involved in community organizations . The STARRS * committee of employees meets regularly to discuss community involvement and requests from various organizations who need assistance . The committee is also dedicated to reaching out to economically-challenged neighborhoods with heart healthy information .
