S Service to the Community 14 Community Service The leadership teams at Baylor Jack and Jane Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital and Baylor University Medical Center are committed to the mission of giving back to the community by providing community health screenings. For heart and vascular services, this means providing wide-spread health information throughout the community and involvement in selected neighborhoods of need for biometric screenings. It also means reaching out to civic organizations and clubs who strive to help improve community health. In fiscal year 2017, the hospital teams collectively conducted more than eleven community screenings; providing blood pressure screening, cholesterol screening, BMI and/or glucose readings. Calls increased over prior years for Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital’s education department to assist with Hands-Only CPR education. Several classes were provided for Dallas Independent School District administration and staff, various area high schools, charter schools, and businesses. During June’s CPR Awareness Week, June 1 through 7, 2017, the staff provided an opportunity for visitors to learn Hands-Only CPR in the lobby of the hospital. In keeping with the American Heart Association efforts to help save lives with Hands- Only CPR instruction, the team at Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular services instructed more than 700 people in fiscal year 2017 and improved knowledge of the warning signs and symptoms of a heart attack.
