Research and Innovation Baylor Jack and Jane Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital’s reputation for excellence and leadership in innovative care is firmly rooted in an unwavering commitment to research. The belief in the value of research is a common bond that brings physicians on the medical staff and the residents and fellows that train within our walls together to better serve our patients. Baylor is well-recognized for original research in cardiac morphology, coronary artery disease, heart failure, in vitro diagnostics, and clinical strategies that deliver advancements at the bedside and in the clinic for our patients. Over the years, patients at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas and Baylor Jack and Jane Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital have participated in thousands of research studies and clinical trials through the Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute. The Institute was founded with the goal of providing physicians on the medical staff and their patients with the expanded research opportunities and an ongoing commitment to innovation through evidence-based medicine. Physicians and executive leadership proudly point to important advancements in medical management, minimally invasive and complex surgical procedures that have resulted from this focus on research for cardiovascular patients. They also acknowledge that research will continue to be at the center of ongoing efforts to improve the diagnosis, treatment and care for patients with heart and vascular disease. 64 Three milestone events also highlighted fiscal year 2016 for the Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute. First, William C. Roberts, MD, longtime member of the medical staffs at Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital and Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, received the Lifetime Achievement award from the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Peter McCullough, an internist and clinical cardiologist, was elected to the position of President of the Cardiorenal Society of America. Finally, Milton Packer, MD, a nationally recognized heart failure investigator, joined Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas as Distinguished Scholar in Cardiovascular Science. Together, Drs. Roberts, McCullough, and Packer, have authored more than 2000 original scientific publications and are among the most frequently cited luminaries in cardiovascular medicine.
