Cardiac Rehabilitation Goes Global In 2016, Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital hosted several international health care professionals to help them learn about the hospital’s leading approach to cardiac rehabilitation. Dr. Lucky Cuenza, a cardiologist from the Philippines spent several days with the Baylor cardiac rehab team studying the Return to Work program, designed to help patients successfully return to their jobs. “I plan to start an industrial cardiac rehab program similar to yours when I get back to the Philippines,” Dr. Cuenza wrote to the Baylor team. Inpatient visits increased by: (FY16) 78% A physiotherapist from Changi General Hospital in Singapore spent one month with the Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital cardiac rehabilitation team to learn about the program so she could start a program in her facility. A delegation of four Chinese health care professionals spent six weeks with the Baylor cardiac rehab team observing the Return to Work lab, the methodologies used and the resources required. The delegates returned to China with plans to establish similar Return to Life cardiac rehabilitation programs using the philosophies they learned while in Dallas. The delegation explained that there has been a significant increase in the obesity rate in China as well as heart disease, so the approaches they learned from the Return to Work program will be especially useful.
