Outcomes 2016 - Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital FY 2016 | Page 38
Center for Valve Disorders
Center for Valve Disorders offers comprehensive
services for patients with any structural heart disease
including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment. A
multidisciplinary team of interventional cardiologists,
cardiac and vascular surgeons, and imaging specialists
use advanced technology and techniques to treat aortic
and mitral valve disease.
Patients and family members travel from across the United
States to the center for a comprehensive examination designed
with patient convenience in mind. The first step in the valve
screening process includes a nearly all-day diagnostic work-up.
Next, clinical specialists meet with the multidisciplinary team
to review each case; then patients receive recommendations
about the treatment process.
Conditions treated include:
• Pulmonic valve stenosis
• Aortic valve stenosis
• Aortic valve insufficiency
• Mitral valve regurgitation/prolapse
• Mitral valve stenosis
• Tricuspid valve regurgitation
• Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM)
Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital continues to
lead Texas in the volume of minimally invasive valve repair and
replacement procedures, and in research on minimally invasive
cardiovascular procedures.
Physicians on the medical staff of Baylor Hamilton Heart
and Vascular Hospital are frontrunners in research and
innovation. Robert Stoler, MD, medical director of the cardiac
catheterization lab and co-medical director of the Division of
Cardiology, and Paul Grayburn, MD, medical director of the
non-invasive lab, have conducted transcatheter mitral and aortic
valve studies leading to U.S. Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) approval of new technologies for patients.
Through the Center for Valve Disorders, patients have access
to clinical trials studying new devices and treatment methods
for valvular disease. Patients are individually evaluated to
determine if they qualify for a clinical trial.

Our patients benefit from the innovative
research we perform, and have an
opportunity to enroll in clinical trials.
The device manufacturers engage only
the highest quality research facilities,
which includes Baylor Hamilton Heart
and Vascular Hospital – one of the only
cardiac centers in North Texas that
enjoys this recognition.
