Outcomes 2016 - Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital FY 2016 | Page 30

Interventional Cardiology As a result of participation in clinical trials and research, Baylor Jack and Jane Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital’s department of Interventional Cardiology is consistently at the forefront of innovation for cardiovascular disease. Involvement includes clinical trials throughout the metroplex, the state of Texas, nationally and internationally. Equipped with seven cardiac and endovascular labs and four electrophysiology (EP) labs, Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital performed more than 13,967 cardiac catheterization lab procedures in fiscal year 2016 and more than 6,366 EP lab procedures in fiscal year 2016. All of our catheterization and electrophysiology labs are equipped with advanced technology including digital subtraction imaging, intravascular ultrasound, intracardiac echocardiography, and coronary flow wire, equipment which enhances accuracy and accessibility of data. Three of our labs are specifically dedicated to the treatment and diagnosis of vascular disease. Labs feature advanced image quality and radiation-lowering equipment for patient and staff safety. Programs in place provide urgent access directly to the cardiac catheterization labs 24 hours daily. The hospital team achieved and maintained the national PCI goal to treat and open a blocked artery within 90 minutes of arrival to our facility. With one of the highest volumes of percutaneous coronary interventions in North Texas, Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital’s team excels in treating patients with left main percutaneous coronary intervention and chronic total occlusions. The hospital cardiac catheterization labs are also equipped and able to perform cardiac assist device implantation. Interventional cardiologists on the medical staff are often involved in clinical trials, and the hospital is a top 10 enroller in several national studies including left main stenting, renal artery stenting, new generation stents, PCI, and mitral valve repair and replacement, as well as other studies. Patients have access to the advanced generation of all interventional devices including cardiac, carotid and vascular stents at Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital. 28 Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital is a major hub for interventional cardiology procedures. With a reputation for clinical quality and good outcomes documented through data analysis by national registries, physicians from throughout the greater region send patients to cardiologists on the medical staff for angioplasty, also known as PCI – treatment that unblocks narrowed coronary arteries without performing surgery. PCI is appropriate for patients with simple and complex ischemic cardiovascular disease. Patients also benefit from innovative research involvement on the campus. The Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital interventional program is recognized as a national and regional referral center. Cardiac catheterizations cases (FY16): PCI cases as a percent of total (FY16): 4,129 41 % * 1,696 PCI OUTCOMES Total PCI cases (FY16): *Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital/Dallas location only.
