REGIONALIZED STEMI PROGRAM
Baylor Heart and Vascular Services at Dallas, the combined
strength of Baylor University Medical Center and Baylor
Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital, reported a total of 131
STEMIs in fiscal year 2016. Hospital teams work with outlying
area hospitals, emergency departments (ED) and urgent cares
in the tracking of STEMI patients. Door to balloon time for
those who experience a ST – segment elevation myocardial
infarction – is key measurement as the time it takes to unblock
blood vessels for any STEMI patient transported to the ED.

As a part of the regional American Heart Association
campaign, “Don’t Die of Doubt,” Baylor University Medical
Center participated in reporting the mode of transport for
STEMI patients. Educational campaigns occurred throughout
fiscal year 2016 at every Baylor Heart and Vascular Services at
Dallas health fair, community event and speaking engagement
to help raise awareness for the importance of calling 9-1-1
instead of driving oneself to the emergency department if
experiencing chest pain.
