ANCC Magnet Recognition ®
Baylor Jack and Jane Hamilton Heart and Vascular
Hospital has been recognized for superior nursing
practices and outcomes with ANCC Magnet Recognition®, an
international distinction for excellence in nursing services from the
American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Given to only five
percent of the hospitals in the United States, this award acknowledges
the patient-centered focus and quality care delivered by our nurses,
physicians on our medical staff and other staff members. Nurses
throughout Magnet® recognized organizations are involved in Shared
Governance through several formalized councils and committees.
Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital is proud of the entire
clinical team of professionals who work closely with the medical staff
to help drive quality outcomes and patient satisfaction. The nursing
team has a high level of advanced degrees, specifically more than 90
percent of the RNs holding a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher
degree including Master’s or Doctoral level degrees. In addition, of the
eligible RNs, more than 70 percent are certified.
Magnet ® shows that our nurses are at the center of change
and outcomes, and this designation reflects our commitment
to excellence. It’s an extraordinary honor. Only five percent
of hospitals in the U.S. have achieved Magnet Recognition.
Our nurses are driving our quality scores, patient satisfaction,
research, and innovation. They help make this the best
hospital it can be.

Shared Governance
Shared Governance is the model that empowers employees to
have a voice and decision-making at Baylor Hamilton Heart and
Vascular Hospital. It is supported by the framework of partnership,
equity, accountability, and ownership. Shared Governance creates
an environment for best care, safe-timely-equitable-effective-patient
centered care, improved patient safety, utilizing evidence-based
practice, and shared decision-making. This framework results in safe,
quality, and compassionate health care. Shared Governance provides
the structure and process to promote autonomy of professional
practice within the scope of the Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular
Hospital employee’s discipline. Shared Governance promotes
participative management and shared-decision making between front-
line staff members and leadership with a formalized voice and process
that impacts both practice and work environment. The philosophy in
action supports collaborative, interdisciplinary practice in which there
is great teamwork and a reduction in the duplication of work.
