COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT / VOLUNTEERING
Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital is committed to providing staff opportunities to be actively involved in the community . Community involvement suggestions have been received from our team members in our Advisory Council and Leadership Council . The STARRS employee committee is involved in reaching out to economically challenged neighborhoods with heart health information for families . Other community involvement in fiscal year 2016 made possible through the STARRS * ( employee ) committee include :
• Pleasant Hills Children ’ s Home holiday gifts and pillow drive
• Dallas Children ’ s Advocacy Center – Toy & Baby Supply Drive , Adopt a Child
• Austin Street Shelter – “ Drawer Drive ”
Fundraising occurs for several key organizations . Employees donate time and money to support a variety of causes .

COMMUNITY ACTIVISM / SPONSORSHIPS
In addition to the close community education collaboration with American Heart Association , Baylor Heart and Vascular Services at Dallas sponsors the Spring Gala , Cotes du Coeur , and the February Heart Month “ Go Red for Women ” luncheon . These events occur for both Dallas and Tarrant counties .
Other American Heart Association collaboration includes working closely to communicate the “ Don ’ t Die of Doubt ” campaign ; bringing awareness to the importance of calling 9-1-1 at the first signs of a potential heart attack .

DON ’ T DIE OF DOUBT
American Heart Association Heart Walk Each year , Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital supports the American Heart Association ’ s mission to “ Build healthier lives , free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke ,” by raising donations
through a series of activities and events . Our employees , their families and pets participate in a fun-filled , non-competitive three-mile walk through downtown Dallas and also in Fort Worth . More than 500 Baylor Scott & White Health employees attend this annual event .
Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital sponsored many charitable organizations in fiscal year 2016 . An organization Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital is proud to sponsor is Nancy Lieberman Charities ; supporting the annual golf classic raising money for youth activities associated with heart healthy lifestyle choices and exercise . This past year , Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital also sponsored 15 children at the special basketball camp .
Living for Zachary is another organization supported with a key sponsorship . The organization is dedicated to raising awareness of sudden cardiac arrest ( SCA ) in youth and saving lives through community education and awareness events , promoting youth heart screenings , awarding student scholarships and donating automated external defibrillators ( AEDs ) to youth-based organizations .
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital hosts and sponsors several clinical continuing education events throughout the calendar year . These programs are created and managed by the clinical teams and are made available to the staff and community .
Each year attendees travel from around Texas and other states to attend these educational seminars on timely cardiovascular topics . This year ' s Heart and Vascular Symposium featured physicians on the medical staff of Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital and specialized nurses and technicians who shared their expertise and insights on current trends in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of cardiac illnesses .
