population. Somalis, Hmong, Latinos, Scandinavian, Middle East/North African, Central and east European, you name it, the list goes on. Among those cultures are also Nepali people. Major environmental disasters happen somewhat frequently on this planet, but here in the cities, we learn to cope, regardless of race and ethnicity. As Nepali-Americans try to get in contact with loved ones and friends who still reside in Nepal, I feel as though the earthquake’s effects will be very similar as, say, the 2011 Japan earthquake/tsunami or 2013’s Supertyphoon Haiyan in the Phillipines.

We’ll certainly be seeing an influx of rescue and charity programs, an increase in donation programs, and rescue efforts assisting in the improvement of Nepal and its current state. Though it’s predictable, it’s most definitely a wonderful effort that people put in, just to help out the general public. It ultimately ends up fostering a truer and deeper sense of something greater than one’s self, regardless of one’s roots and the community in which they reside, which results in something truly beautiful in the long run.
