In the past year or so upcycling has become a creative outlet for me and I love to find things that I can give a new lease of life. I am going to share with you a quick tutorial on how to upcycle a picture.

Supplies Needed

Frame

Paint brush

Paint

Sandpaper – P240 fine grit

Cloth

Paper – for work surface protection

Paint can opener

Something to place frame on while drying

I purchased my frame from a local second hand shop and because it was a little grimy, I gave it a quick wipe down with a damp cloth and gave the glass a good wash with soapy water.

Next, I put some paper down on my work area, which happens to be the dining table, to protect the table while painting.

The paint I selected is Old Linen by Voodoo Molly. It’s a vintage paint and made here in NZ.

With this frame, no preparation other than cleaning was required. If you were painting an oak or mahogany frame, then you may need to seal first.
