Shaving Cream Dyed Eggs

By Alana from Mud Mates.

Easter is nearly here – yay! Here’s another fun activity for the kids to help get into the Easter spirit. There are numerous ways to colour eggs, but I thought (being a fan of shaving cream as a messy play and sensory material) we’d give shaving cream dyed eggs a go!

The eggs didn’t turn out as vibrant as I would have liked, but Miss 3 had a great time making them!

What you’ll need:

– hard-boiled eggs, cooled (as many as you would like)

– food colouring (range of colours)

– shaving cream

– spatula or knife

– toothpick

– baking tray or similar flat tray

– paper towels

Instructions for making shaving cream dyed eggs:

Squirt the shaving cream onto the tray. Spread it smooth with a spatula or knife to prevent the food colouring from running (I forgot this step!).

Carefully add drops of food colouring all over the shaving cream.

Use the toothpick to swirl the food colouring around to get a marbled effect.

Roll the eggs, one by one, from one side of the shaving cream to the other. Place on a paper towel.

Leave for at least 10 minutes (hopefully the longer you leave them the more vibrant the colour) then wipe off the shaving cream with a paper towel. Pretty, marbled dyed eggs for Easter!

Miss 3 then had a blast playing with the shaving cream! It’s such a fantastic, versatile messy play and sensory play material so let your kids go wild.

I protected Miss 3’s clothes with a

Craft Apron and our table top was covered with a Fitted Tablecloth to keep it clean and make clean up easier and quicker!
