Fall In Love With Black People This Season!

Not only is “BLACK BACK” its everywhere! Autumn 2014 is bursting at the seams with black talent.

“Dear White People” presents itself a satire to be reckoned with. Meet Samantha White (Tessa Thompson) a self proclaimed activist who singlehandedly incites a culture war while educating the Caucasian student body on what it actually means to be a Black face in a White world. What I look forward to with this film is that it doesn’t cringe at the tough subjects; nor does it shy away from the ugliness of racism or the fact that it is very much alive today. But instead it boldly slaps racial dispute across the face smack cam style and then points and laughs at it hysterically. In a time when the healing medicine of laughter is needed most Dear White People promises to deliver just that. Dear White People will be in theatres October 17

Also coming to theatres this Fall; No Good Deed starring Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson out on September 12; “Jimi” (the Jimi Hendrix BioPic) starring Andre Benjamin in theatres Sept 26; Addicted the screenplay based on Zhane’s best selling novel due in theatres October 10th.

Broadway also seems to be on board with the explosion of color on stage

KeKe Palmer to star in the Rodgers & Hammerstein production of Cinderella.

The 21-year-old actress will be the first African American woman to portray the role of Cinderella, which she describes as a “dream come true”. Also Joining the cast is former View host Sherri Shepherd. Shepherd will be playing the role of Madame, the wicked stepmother of Cinderella. Shepard is also the first black woman to portray this roll on Broadway. Palmer and Shepard will be opening September 9 at the Broadway Theatre.

Running now is Holler if you hear me; a Hip-hop Musical inspired by the works of Tupac Shakur, also on Broadway is Motown the Musical that is the adaptation of the life and journey of founder Berry Gordy as he discovered some of the greatest musical artists of all time.
