THE IRISH
March is Irish American Heritage Month and Our Valley is celebrating it with articles and images representing the great
Irish tradition in America. There are 34.5 million Irish Americans in the United States. That is seven times more than the
population of Ireland itself. Irish is the second most common ancestry among Americans (German is first). The first
migration was the result of The Great Irish Famine, which we cover in this issue. Wear green and badges that say, “Kiss
Me I’m Irish!” And remember, on St. Patrick’s Day … everyone is Irish.
EASTER
Easter is on April 1st so we’re getting a little bit ahead of ourselves, but we couldn’t help it. It’s such a great time to
rejoice and be grateful. It’s a time of love and devotion. Yes, Holy Week is a serious time of penance, but it’s all good as
the week terminates in the joy of Easter.
CRAZY, CRAZY MARCH
Can you believe Dumbstruck Day? How about E.T. Abduction Day? We couldn’t either until our diligent associate editor
found them. He insisted on writing about them and including them in this issue. Magazine worthy? You make the call.
On the more traditional side, the Ides of March, the Swallows returning to Capistrano, St. Patrick’s Day and … Puppy’s
Day? Yes, they are all here. Oh, and then there is our personal favorite, March Madness! Well, at least one of us loves it.
We cover it in this issue.
ST. FRANCIS DAM
Don’t beat us up because we are including this article from February’s issue again here. Most of the events take place in
March and we want as many people as possible to see and read this story and then go and attend at least one event.
Enjoy!
