The Meaning
of Easter
So what does Jesus, God with us, do? He comes to the least the last and the lost. He tells them
stories of God’s love and God’s provision. But he doesn’t just leave it to words, Jesus takes action
and the greatest action he takes is to prove God’s unfathomable love by becoming sin for us and
dying on the cruel cross of Calvary for our sins. He, God with us, allowed himself to be hung up
for our hang ups and shed his blood as a payment for our sins.
But it doesn’t end with Jesus just providing the ultimate sacrifice for mankind. Easter is also about
power – resurrection power. The Savior, the very Son of God, whose body was broken, whose
blood was spilled, who died and was buried didn’t stay dead. In a triumphant, pregnant with
power, unprecedented, magnanimous moment God raised Jesus from the dead, just as he said he
would. Great for Jesus but what does it mean for us?
John 3:16 summarizes it very well: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only
Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Why did Jesus come and die and 3 days later rise victorious over death, the grave and sin? So
that our sins could be wiped out, not just covered, cleansed! His promise is then to fill our life to
overflowing with His grace, inhabit our hearts with His consuming Holy Spirit and lend His
presence and power to the days of our lives that we might have life and have life eternal, which
means we get to participate in Jesus’ victory, his resurrection victory, over death, sin and the
grave!
The world uses duct tape to fix everything – God used nails!
