Patricia O ’ Hearn : Artist , Educator

Patricia was born in breezy Santa Monica where the sea , the sky , and the local gardens provided many beautiful memories and images . She was one of those children who were constantly doodling , crafting , coloring , and painting in the yard or at the dining room table . There still is a huge splotch of India ink on an antique lace table cloth as a reminder of a day of drawing with pen and ink . Later she went on to teach elementary age children and work with teachers for thirty five years always integrating the arts into the academic program . She has studied various creative techniques over the years enriching her art experiences . In her travels across the United States , Mexico , Japan , Guam , China , Canada and Peru , she absorbed elements and flavors of each region , which affected the way she interprets her painting subjects .
Patricia is a California Impressionist who paints in studio and en plein air . Her subjects include still life , animals , landscapes , waterscapes , and skyscapes . She seeks out vistas in locations such as the foothills and canyons of Santa Clarita , National Parks , the California Coast , historic locations , and the wine country . Color theory , composition , tension and harmony , shapes , line , mood , atmosphere , negative space , and texture , all play a role in the process of planning and creating her paintings .
