A Light Look at Being Single
This is a couple ’ s society . Being single isn ’ t some sort of disease everyone wants to get rid of . Whoever said being in a relationship or married is superior to being alone ? Our culture places such an emphasis on being part of a couple that it makes single people feel like Bernie Sanders voters at a Trump rally .
It seems that everything in life is geared to existing couples or finding a mate . Look at Movies , Television and even ED commercials . Speaking of ED commercials , what do bathtubs have to do with anything and why are there two single bathtubs ? I thought the ED meds fixed that problem ?
People are waiting longer to get married . Many lose a spouse or get divorced . Maybe the right one just doesn ’ t come along . Society is changing ( for the better ?) and we need to accept the fact that there are many life styles . Being single is just one , but it isn ’ t all bad .
I ’ ve compiled a list of advantages of being single . If you have more I ’ d love to hear them .
• You ’ re always there when you need you
• Having only one bath tub is OK ( see above )
• You don ’ t miss being single
• Valentine ’ s Day is history . ( No more being manipulated by the evil Greeting Cards Chocolates Flowers cartel .)
• Never forgetting your partner ’ s birthday
• You can dance like a moron without anyone seeing
• The microwave is the only one telling you when dinner ’ s ready
• Pizza is now a food group
• On weekends grooming is an option
• Saturday golf is on !
• Toilet seat issues up or down – gone !
• Passing gas is now OK
• Stupid couple ’ s costumes on Halloween are history . ( Why would anyone wear duct tape because it matches your partner ? Or , dress up as a bee and a flower ? Ok , I get that one .)
• No more fights about stupid stuff that doesn ’ t mean anything . ( A look or even a single word taken out of context can lead to Armageddon .)
• Never hearing , “ You always do ____ ( fill in blank )” again
• No more chick flicks ( guys ) Or , Action / Mayhem movies ( gals )
• 2 words , no in-laws
Truth be told though and all jokes aside ( the above was all in fun – I think ), many of us do miss the companionship and the feeling of belonging . Love and relationships are a great thing , but they have to be right and with the right person . It ’ s been a long time for me . After this article probably a lot longer .
Also know it ’ s better to be single than be in a bad relationship . Take the opportunity to work on yourself and be more self reliant . A wise person once said , “ Sometimes you have to stand alone to prove that you can still stand .” If you don ’ t find anyone or they don ’ t find you … you ’ re still a much better person .
