OUR VALLEY SANTA CLARITA
MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER
Ken Striplin
The Fourth of July means a fun filled day in Santa Clarita . It is a holiday people of all ages look forward to , whether you like to get up early for the Independence Day Run , enjoy the sights and sounds of the much beloved parade or can ’ t wait to see the summer night sky lit up with fireworks . Speaking of fireworks , we want to make sure everyone enjoys this patriotic holiday safely . Besides being a fire danger to our hills , which are lush with vegetation after this winter ’ s rain , they can also be a nuisance . Sheriff ’ s deputies will be out looking for illegal fireworks and making sure that people are celebrating safely and considerately .
As the temperatures go up – a great way to cool off is to head to one of the City ’ s six pools . While all locations offer swim lessons and other programs , there is only one spot to bring your family if you want to dive into the water and into a popular kids flick . The summer favorite , Dive In Movies , returns on Saturday , July 8 with the Secret Life of Pets at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center and on Saturday July 29 , it ’ s Finding Dory at the Santa Clarita Pool . Films start at 7 p . m . No matter your taste of music , there is sure to be something that appeals to your dancing feet at this summer ’ s Concerts in the Park , presented by Logix Federal Credit Union . Some of the highlights include a Queen tribute , Earth , Wind & Fire tribute , Val Halen tribute , Santana tribute , Tom Petty tribute , Sublime tribute , Beatles tribute and a rockin ’ country western show . Concerts kick off at 7 p . m . at Central Park running July 8 – August 26 . Check out santaclarita . com / concerts for the full lineup .
Looking to add some entertainment into your child ’ s summertime ? Look no further than our local community centers . The Newhall Community Center offers a variety of programs for teens and kids . Children can enjoy exciting and creative activities and games , while teens take part in weekly themed projects that include art , games and even fieldtrips ( additional cost ). For more information , check out santa-clarita . com / NCC .
There is more summer fun to be had at the Canyon Country Community Center . Kids can dance , explore fabulous physics , build in Lego Camp , get active with dodgeball games and even work some magic at Wizard Camp . For more information , please visit santa-clarita . com / CCCC .
I hope you enjoy all our City has to offer during the summer months .
