President’s Day
We grew up celebrating Lincoln’s and Washington’s birthdays. Somehow the politically correct group
got a hold of those days and turned them into President’s Day. We didn’t understand the change and
still don’t. Not all presidents are equal. Washington was vital to the creation of the nation and Lincoln
to its preservation. In our minds no other presidents can come close. Well, maybe HST.
Valentine’s Day
As you read Dean Cheeseman’s article and view the lovely couples you’ll notice one of them is a self
serving photo of us. Since we just celebrated 44 years of marriage we had no qualms including
ourselves in the story. Someday we might write a book on marriage. Or maybe not.
St. Francis Dam Disaster
Lots of folks in Santa Clarita are working hard to establish a National Historic site honoring the
victims of California’s second biggest loss of life disaster. Please take the time to read the story in
this issue and make the time to take part in the events planned.
The Day the Music Died
We were teenagers when Rock N Roll really took off. At the time of the fatal plane crash Ritchie
Valens was the hottest artist on the charts and Buddy Holly was becoming a legend. The third rocker
on the plane … “Helllllooooo Baby!” was the Big Bopper. For many of us the music died on that day
when we got the tragic news. But then, after a decent period of mourning, it came back big time with
our favorites the Beatles, the Stones, Santana and the Temptations. Oh, yeah!
