Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (MSH), aka The Driver

Recent research indicates that MSH helps to increase the sex drive in women by preparing women physically, emotionally and mentally for the act of intercourse. . During arousal when our brains senses that we are ready for sex, the hypothalamus triggers the release of MSH, which discharges oxytocin and other hormones. MSH is secreted in the body when there is bright sunlight and exposure to sunlight elevates the production and secretion of this substance. The longer days of spring, the body is capable of producing more MSH

Serotonin, aka, The Feel Good Transmitter

Serotonin is a feel-good neurotransmitter produced by the brain, may also be responsible for heightened mood and sex drive during spring and summer. Multiple studies have suggested that the production of serotonin is directly related to sunlight and that with increased sunlight comes increased serotonin levels. Female hormones affecting sexual interest increase as the amount of daylight increases. Here’s the interesting thing about serotonin, when serotonin is low researchers says it also tends to increase sex drive. Whereas higher serotonin levels are also associated with an increase in oxytocin.

Dealing with spring fever...

Although the exact cause of spring fever is still unclear, there is antidotal evidence that hormones do a partial job of explaining the seasonal epidemic of impulsive, giddy sexual behaviors that take place during spring.

With all of the ups, downs and hormonal shifts happening during attraction, It’s important that we become intimately acquainted with neurotransmitters and hormones. The more we know about them the better we will understand our satiable or sometimes insatiable appetite for sex, love, attraction and sexual desires. And the more we’re able to understand, the better chances we can navigate our own thoughts, desires and sexual behviors.
