In 1978, the Double Eagle II launched from Presque Isle
and made the first successful crossing of the Atlantic. In
1984 Joe Kittinger became the first person to make the solo
Transatlantic balloon journey at a launch site in Caribou.
The Presque Isle area is also host to many summer
festivals and fairs which are family-oriented, full of fun
and interest to everyone. In addition to all the fairs and
festivals, this area also is great for enthusiasts of biking,
hiking, fishing and bird watching in a beautiful and natural
environment.
