Are you going upta camp? by Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce Are you going upta camp? Then you are either from Aroostook County or have been living here long enough to understand. Summer is so long anticipated that each spare moment people can be at their cottage, using their boat, wetting a line or just relaxing outdoors is precious. Camp may only be 10 minutes away from home but it is still a different world. The best thing about summer in this area is that we really get to enjoy it. Rarely is it too hot or humid to be unable to go about your regular daily tasks. Working in the agricultural, landscaping, forestry or outdoor construction fields requires lots of water to drink, but that is healthy. Summer is the best time for socializing with your family, friends, and neighbors because everyone likes to be outdoors; at community events, walking, biking, running, wo rking in their gardens and on their lawns. I often hear people comment at some of the community events that they hadn’t seen a neighbor since the same event last year! A lot of catching up is done. Instead of rushing from one air- conditioned space to another, we stroll along soaking up the heat and Vitamin D. We can always add layers of clothing to stay warm in the winter and it is nice to be warm but not leaking, as they say in the Caribbean when the summer arrives. Summer is filled by at least one community event every weekend. In Presque Isle or Caribou, each Thursday provides an outdoor concert or performance. SUMMER 2018 59
