Our Maine Street's Aroostook Issue 3 : Winter 2010 | Page 55

Houlton The Holidays are over and the next few months often seem the hardest to get through. The weather deals us all it has and we can either sit home or watch it as it happens or get out and do something in spite of it. Aroostook County certainly has every winter activity covered. It’s an important time of year for those in our business community. Winter tourism plays a big part in our economy. While tourists who travel here become familiar with the trails, restaurants, hotels and motels, the question is, how familiar are you? Within the pages of this magazine you will find stories from communities throughout the county describing activities that are happening all winter long. From festivals to fun-filled weekend packages, there is a lot to do. Houlton’s Moosestompers Weekend will be held February 5th through the 7th. You are all invited to participate in the snowmobile parade, sliding, ice skating, outdoor contests, a huge bonfire, inside activities, a fishing derby and so much more! This is an annual event that has become a fun tradition for area families. Come and join us! The New Year’s resolutions that we all make always include getting out and becoming more active. There’s a winter activity with your name on it, visit around the county or close to home to find out what it is and have fun. WINTER 2010 Our Communities 53
