Not only has Kathy been an integral part of my work life,
but I’ve also been personally enriched by our relationship.
Like so many who have crossed her path, I’ve reaped the
benefits of her wisdom and guidance. She has a way of
mentoring using well-timed comments or giving thoughtful
suggestions that not only fit the immediate situation, but
are infused with life lessons. “Kimmer,” she’s said when I
fret about attendance, “It doesn’t matter if two people or
two hundred people show up to this program as long as
whoever is here gets something out of it.” Or when I would
get hung up on keeping score and giving prizes, she’d say,
“If everyone had fun then they’re all winners.” When we’ve
encountered challenges, she’s always the first one to say,
“We’ll figure out a way to get it done, no problem.” And my
favorite bit of advice, “When all else fails, just put on some
Buckwheat Zydeco music and dance with happy feet.”
