Bank. The bank donated a similar basket to each of The County hospitals as part of their new sponsorship of “Special Deliveries,” a weekly campaign on WAGM-TV that announces the births of babies born at each of the four County hospitals. In addition to the basket, Carly received a Halo SleepSack from the TAMC staff and a hand-made quilt donated by Crown of Maine Quilters. The first baby in February also gets a little something special. Newborn Alex Brown and his family received a basket full of items to promote good oral health for the whole family, courtesy of ACAP’s Oral Health Education Program and in recognition of National Children’s Dental Health Month. TAMC embraces any opportunity to promote a healthy community and therefore, welcomes this annual fun campaign, according to Lilley. “Every baby at TAMC is extraordinary to us and ensuring their overall health in the future is a goal that all the staff hold dear to their heart,” she said. TAMC staff work to make every delivery a special one, adding touches to ensure the best experience possible. For instance, when Ashley Patterson of Presque Isle was ready to deliver her first child in March 2013, she wanted her husband to be a part of the experience... a challenging task since he was deployed in Afghanistan at the time. Using an iPad and Skype from the moment Ashley was admitted, through the cesarean-section delivery of Gracelyn in the operating room, Kyle never missed a beat – even when the battery ran low on the iPad, a TAMC nurse rushed to get her personal power cord to keep the connection going. All babies at the hospital have a special place in the hearts of the staff, according to Lilley, and all parents can expect safe, compassionate care during their stay. That level of safety is among the top in the state, according to two independent surveys in three measured categories related to maternity care. Rankings from independent industry watchdog Leapfrog and the Maine Health Management Coalition Foundation (MHMC-F) show the Women and Children’s Unit at the Presque Isle hospital meets or exceeds industry standards in all three of the ranked categories - early elective delivery, episiotomy and maternity care processes. “The ratings TAMC received confirms that we strive to deliver safe, evidenced based, and exceptional care to the people of Aroostook County,” said Lilley. TAMC’s Women & Children’s Department will be holding an open house to showcase facilities and offer tips on topics such as car seat safet 䁅
