“I HAVE FAITH IN
VOLUNTEERING...”
Mitchell Lunt, a Caldmoreaccord customer, has always
had strong a work ethic.
Mitchell, 50, has spent the last 20 years being very busy as
a father, raising his seven children with his partner of 23
years. In 2014, once his kids were older, Mitchell began to
volunteer with the Accord Group Home and Gardens team
as a caretaker at the Kingshill site.
Now, through hard work, commitment and determination, Mitchell has just been
appointed to the Caretaker’s role on a permanent basis.
Mitchell said, “I am really happy securing this permanent job. I have faith in
volunteering - it’s the best way to get experience when you’ve been out of work for a
long time. I enjoy the job because it gives me new challenges each day.”
The Accord Group is committed to ensuring that our customers and their families have
opportunities to volunteer with us. For more information, visit the customer section on
our website at accordgroup.org.uk/customers.

Top tips for
starting
college
Go to lectures
College is an amazing
experience, but you can’t
stay if you fail your course.
Missing lectures is one of the
worst things you can do.
Participate
It’s not all about studying.
Join in and get involved.
Being sociable will help you
meet new people and prepare
you for academic success.
Be bold...
Do things that are outside
of your comfort zone. Never
explored a certain religion?
Never tried a certain kind of
food that’s available in the cafeteria?
Take some risks. You went to college
to learn new stuff, right?
...but learn to
say ‘no’
Saying ‘yes’ to everything
that sounds fun, interesting
and exciting will lead you to
trouble. Your studies will suffer, your
time management will be horrible, and
you’ll burn yourself out.
Ask for help
Colleges are generally
pretty good places - no one
there wants to see
you do poorly. If you’re
struggling, ask or help.
Watch your
spending
If you let your finances slip,
you can quickly find yourself
in a lot of trouble. Make sure
you’re sticking to your budget. A parttime job can help give you a regular
income and the work experience will
be useful later.
