Ottumwa Life Holiday 2018 - Page 7

T housands of soft white lights on dozens of Christmas trees illuminate Ottumwa’s Central Park throughout the holiday season, bringing memories, tears, smiles and, for some, a sense of peacefulness. For 7-year-old Ben Logan, the Lights of Love special tree he sponsors is a way to honor the memory of his daddy, Jeff Logan, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 46. “I think, for him, it keeps his memory alive,” said Ben’s moth- er, Abby Leonard. That special tree has been decorated with personal touches Above, Ellie and Tara Pitzel decorate the tree they dedicated as part of 2017’s Lights of Love display in Ottumwa's Central Park. The annual display allows people and businesses to honor loved ones and wish the community a happy holiday season. At top, Tammy Post places an ornament in memory of her son, Corey Smith, during a previous tree lighting ceremony held at Central Park in Ottumwa. Courier file photos HOLIDAY! 7
