Otherworld North East Hut 22 got a number of reported odd phenomena occurring during the night - at 11.05pm The North East Ghost In-Spectres’ Darren Ritson reported that the ambient temperature of the area rose dramatically and suddenly from 3°C to 12°C, at the same time as a scraping noise was heard from somewhere within the hut, though no source for the sound could be heard, and five minutes later the group heard footsteps while at the same time a strange light was spotted. The four team members in Hut 22 at the time also reported the feeling of being watched, and two members reported feelings of pain in their chests and throat at 11.45pm. Two minutes later Darren heard the sound of a man moaning, at the same time as an EMF meter picked up sudden and abrupt readings, small in scale but there nonetheless. At 2.50am, the team present at the time asked for any spirit present to make itself known, and one of the camcorders was reportedly physically switched off. In Hut 22, I was doing my usual wander around with temperature recording equipment when my ears picked up on an odd sound: the sound of 1940’s music playing faintly and in the distance. At the time, I asked Colin of API whether or not the staff and owners of the camp played music as ambience for the place, to which he replied that he didn’t know. The ‘phenomena’ was recorded and promptly forgotten about by myself, and the memory was only triggered months later when I visited the POW Camp to take more photographs during the day, and sure enough the sound of old gramaphone records was being played to welcome visitors... In Hut 13, murmuring voices were heard within the confines of the walls at 1am (though as words and language weren’t audible, I suppose this could be put down to the voices of the teams in surrounding buildings floating through to Hut 13), and one of API’s core team, Jo, allegedly had her dowsing rods pulled from her hands when she tried to communicate with anything present. The Theatre block proved to be quite quiet during the night’s vigils, with a couple of light anomalies being seen by the stage on video (though likely to be dust disturbed by the investigators) and an odd sickly sweet smell being noticed on a number of occasions, which Sarah of the Otherworld investigation team put down to being “simply damp and mouldy” - a likely explanation for a derelict building within a rain storm! Cindy of API also reported the sensation of something pushing against her shoulder and when the team tried dowsing they appear to have communicated with a German spirit that didn’t like women, and the ‘smell’ was reportedly following her around - though how this was distinguished from the natural musty smell of the building is uncertain (or maybe she was just nervous!). Hut 10 perhaps demonstrated to myself the biggest potential for anomalous activity when at 1.04am Colin of API mentioned that he had an intense pain in his side, and seconds later one of the the motion sensors set in the main corridor began to go off, a sequence of off and on that lasted well over half an hour, as if the sensor was measuring a steady flow of movement in the empty corridor. Being naturally cynical, I then swapped the sensor for 42
