Otherworld North East
An interesting link relating to an article about the link between EMFs and ghosts can be
found at the Hollow Hill research site:
"Ghosts, EMF, and the Philadelphia Experiment"
So as with practically all areas of the so-called paranormal, EMFs themselves can
sometimes lead to heated discussions surrounding their relevance (or lack thereof!!)
Irrespective of your own personal belief about EMFs and their relevance to the
paranormal though, EMFs should be taken seriously in other respects.
Many leading scientists believe them to be responsible for a number of health problems
which seemingly have been on the increase over the past twenty years. The increase is
said to be in line with the increase in EMFs surrounding us in an everyday sense. Health
problems associated with EMFs have so far been linked to (but is not limited to),
headaches, migraines, Alzheimer’s disease and childhood leukaemia. There is no definite
proof as yet but it is something scientists continue to research.
How can we detect EMFs?
There is a whole host of equipment out there on the
market to enable scientists and indeed everyone
detect electromagnetic fields. There is something out
there to suit everyones budget.
One of the cheapest bits of kit out there has always
been (and still looks to be topping the market for its
cheap-appeal) is that of the Gauss Master (also known
as Dr Gauss). It is small enough to be carried around
with ease and makes a wonderful (albeit quite
annoying!) audible noise whenever it detects a field. It
is calibrated between 50 and 60 Hz. (This is exactly in
the range of most electrical equipment found within
your home). These meter enables you to walk around
your house, anytime it beeps loudly, you can be

Gauss in the 50-60Hz range. (Long term exposure to
fields over 2.5milli-Gauss are largely to be
discouraged).
On the whole this piece of kit used to be largely used by electricians. It is superb at
detecting cables behind walls so you can imagine how useful these are for electricians!
However, since a Gauss Master appeared on the very first episode of Most Haunted, sales
have shot through the roof as everyone who decided to jump on the “ghost hunting”
bandwagon thought that if the Most Haunted crew had one then they should have one
too.
