FORT DALLES MUSEUM
The museum became a repository for city and county
history and Native American artifacts, pioneer tools and
housewares, and photographs that help preserve the area’s
heritage. “We tell people that you can visit a lot of museums
and view history, but when you visit us, you live history.”
The Fort Dalles Museum is 111 years old and occupies a
161 year-old-building that was the Fort Dalles surgeon’s
quarters. “A group of local pioneer women was responsible
for rescuing the historic building and opening the museum
on August 31st 1905.”
